REIMAGINING GREY STREET
Like our personal lives and the world around us times are changing here at Grey Street UC.
It is well documented that main street churches in Canada are experiencing aging congregations and
declining attendance which is resulting in churches closing their doors. It is also documented, that
the churches that are staying viable have made their buildings more accessible to all and increased
their revenue by utilizing their buildings in different ways (renting out space to other user groups and
sharing worship space with other denominations).
At the Visioning Day January 2019 the Leadership team spent time discussing the current status and
future for Grey Street UC as we know it. We too are experiencing an ageing and declining
congregation. We also have a building that is not accessible by all to the lower level.
This discussion resulted in the following decisions that were shared with the congregation at the 2019
Annual General Meeting.
All avenues for gaining access to the lower level have been exhausted. Not enough
resources to support this project.
